Medicare is our most popular and successful public health program—but it is under threat from private insurance companies and Wall Street investors!
Medicare Advantage is an insidious program that entices Americans to enroll with the promise of low premiums and additional benefits, but that delivers a series of rude surprises in the form of limited networks, delays and denials of medically necessary care, and surprise out-of-pocket costs.
PNHP is committed to fighting all forms of Medicare profiteering, from our campaign against the ACO REACH program that prompted policymakers to stop well short of their stated goal of moving all Traditional Medicare recipients into a REACH-like program by 2030 to our current focus on Medicare Advantage, which now covers more than half of all Medicare beneficiaries.
Taking on an adversary this big and this well-funded will require significant resources. It will require advocates like you—who care deeply about the future of Traditional Medicare—to raise your voices, organize your communities, and donate to build the capacity of PNHP.
As we celebrate our 35th anniversary, let’s protect the Medicare program we know and love. Because without a truly public Medicare today, we won’t be able to win the promise of a single-payer Medicare for All tomorrow.
Physicians for a National Health Program (PNHP) advocates for universal, comprehensive single-payer national health insurance, and collaborates with others to fight racism and advance social justice.
PNHP believes that high-quality health care is a right of all people and should be provided equitably as a public service rather than bought and sold as a commodity.
