March 27, 2019

Dear colleague,

The next PNHP conference call is this Thursday, March 28 at 8 p.m. Central time (9 p.m. Eastern, 6 p.m. Pacific).

The call-in number, as usual, is 712-775-8972 with passcode 556549

Reminder: To encourage give-and-take conversation, all callers will be audible on the call. If you call in after 8 p.m. sharp (Central time), please refrain from announcing yourself. Also, please be aware of distracting background noise in your home and mute your phone if necessary. To mute your line, use the mute feature on your phone (for best results), or use the conference calling system by pressing 4*. To unmute your phone, press 4* again.

Agenda

1. SNaHP Summit and student updates

Earlier this month, nearly 200 students from across the country attended the 8th annual Students for a National Health Program (SNaHP) Summit at Columbia University Medical Center in New York City. We'll get a report on the Summit from student leaders, along with an update on other student activism, including a planned action at the AMA's Chicago meeting in June.

2. Federal legislative updates

Last month, Rep. Pramila Jayapal introduced the Medicare for All Act of 2019, or H.R. 1384, with more than 100 co-sponsors. Many of the co-sponsors supported the previous version of the legislation, H.R. 676, but some are entirely new co-sponsors. Several co-sponsors of H.R. 676 have not signed on to the new legislation.

3. Chapter and activist reports

Many chapters and activists are engaged in activities from Congressional visits to chapter meetings to screenings of health care films, and we want to hear about it. If you would like to report on activities in your area, please send an email to organizer@pnhp.org.

4. Announcements

How have changes in your community affected your practice? Complete our survey to let us know what's going on. Has your area seen hospital closures? Or has your health system acquired or been acquired by another? Has your health system recently implemented a new EHR? Have your patients experienced disruptions in care due to insurance or system transitions?

Save the date: PNHP's 2019 Annual Meeting will be held in Philadelphia on Saturday, Nov. 2, with Leadership Training on Friday, Nov. 1.

I hope you can participate in this month's call.

Adam Gaffney, M.D., M.P.H.
President
